ACS Grade Acids & Bases
ACS grade meets or exceeds purity standards set by the Committee on Analytical Reagent of the American Chemical Society (ACS), which is intended to serve for reagents and standard-grade reference materials to be used in precise analytical work of a general nature. Acids and bases that meet the ACS criteria are called ACS grade acids & bases, and the purity is more than 95%. Due to the high purity, ACS grade acids & bases can be applied in most chemical analyses or reactions.
Application fields
ACS grade acids & bases are generally used in inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP), carbon sulfur analysis and the others.
Inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP): Inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP) is an analytical method to study the structure of substances and determine their chemical composition, which has the advantages of low detection limit, high accuracy, fast analysis speed and good selectivity. In the sample processing step before ICP detection, acid decomposition and base dissolution are two commonly used methods. To ensure the accuracy of the analysis results, the acid and base used need to be ACS grade acids & bases. Most inorganic compounds, metals, alloys, ores, and other samples can be dissolved by acids. The commonly used ACS grade acids can be divided into hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, perchloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. Base dissolution is usually used to dissolve tungsten, aluminum and aluminum alloys, including ACS grade sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and the others. For example, high purity aluminum dissolves slowly in an acid solution, but quickly in a base solution.
Carbon sulfur analysis: Carbon and sulfur analysis method can realize the quantitative analysis of carbon and sulfur elements in iron and steel materials, which can be divided into infrared absorption carbon and sulfur analytical method, gas capacity method/iodine quantity carbon and sulfur analytical method, non-water titration carbon and sulfur analytical method, conductivity carbon and sulfur analytical method and the others. Among them, non-water titration carbon and sulfur analytical method uses the principle of acid-base titration to determine the content of carbon and sulfur in iron and steel. In the non-water titration carbon and sulfur analytical method, acid and base solutions are required to be ACS grade acids & bases to reduce the interference of impurities.
Others: In addition to the above mentioned, ACS grade acids & bases can be applied in potentiometric titration, acid-base titration and experiments and production that need to control the contents of impurities. Especially, when the content of the solution used in the process has an impact on the reaction condition or the final product, ACS grade acids & bases are required.
