Case Study

Synthesis of Some Novel Non-Ionic Surfactants Based on Tolyltriazole

Migahed, M. A., et al. Egyptian Journal of Petroleum 22.1 (2013): 149-160.

In a 250 mL four-neck flask equipped with a condenser, magnetic stirrer, thermometer, and ethylene oxide gas inlet and outlet nozzles, 2-3 drops of triethylamine were added to 1 mole of tolyltriazole (133.15 g). The mixture was stirred at 80-90 °C for about 15 minutes while ethylene oxide gas was passed through the tolyltriazole melt at a controlled pressure of approximately 86-88 cm Hg, maintaining stirring throughout the process.

Synthesis of Multi-Layer pH-Responsive Nanocapsules Using Tolyltriazole

Fathabadi, H. E., M. Ghorbani, and H. Mokarami Ghartavol. Nano-Structures & Nano-Objects 26 (2021): 100760.

Multi-layer pH-responsive nanocapsules were synthesized with tolyltriazole as the corrosion inhibitor and ZrO₂ nanoparticles as the core.
Microspheres were prepared using the LbL (layer-by-layer) method. ZrO₂ nanopowder with an average particle size of 17 nm was added to deionized water to create a suspension with a solid content of 15 wt.%. The suspension was stirred continuously to remove and prevent clay aggregation. To achieve better dispersion, the suspension was heated and ultrasonically stirred at 50 °C for 12 hours. The resulting suspension was then centrifuged and washed three times with distilled water, followed by drying in air at 60 °C for 12 hours. The dried ZrO₂ nanoparticles were stored in a desiccator for further use.
To modify the surface and control the release of the pre-loaded corrosion inhibitor on the ZrO₂ nanoparticles, alternating layers of polyelectrolytes were deposited from a solution with a concentration of 2 mg/mL. However, to ensure better and thicker deposition of the inhibitor layer, a higher concentration solution of tolyltriazole (TTA) (4 mg/mL) was applied. Each stirring step lasted for 20 minutes.
