Air Pollutants, Aldehydes/DNPH Standards
Aldehydes, such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and others, have become major air pollutants, which can seriously harm human health, and aldehydes/DNPH standards can be used in many analytical methods to detect aldehydes in the air. As reference materials, aldehydes/DNPH standards are physical reference substances, which are of high purity and has one or more given characteristic values. Aldehydes/DNPH standards are essential for qualitative or quantitative analysis of aldehydes in the air. In addition, the aldehydes/DNPH standards can be either a pure standard solution of aldehydes or DNPH, or a mixture of aldehydes and DNPH. Commonly used aldehydes/DNPH standards are acetaldehyde-2,4-DNPH, acrolein-2,4-DNPH, benzaldehyde-2,4-DNPH, n-butyraldehyde-2,4-DNPH, propionaldehyde-2,4-DNPH, valeraldehyde-2,4-DNPH and others.
Application fields
In the analysis of air pollutants, aldehydes/DNPH standards are mainly used for qualitative or quantitative analysis of aldehydes, which can be used in many conditions, including indoor air, workplace air, ambient air and others.
Gas chromatography: Gas chromatography is an important analytical method for the detection of aldehydes in the air. In the detection process, aldehydes/DNPH standards are necessary. For example, it has been reported that the detection of aldehydes in the air of workplace has been achieved by gas chromatography using aldehydes/DNPH standards. In the process of this detection method, the aldehydes/DNPH standards is used to make the standard curve. The qualitative and quantitative detection of aldehydes in the air of workplace is realized by using the relationship between the detected substance and the peak strength and peak area of the standard curve.
High performance liquid chromatography: Aldehydes/DNPH standards play important roles in the determination of aldehyde pollutants in the air by high performance liquid chromatography. For example, trace amounts of formaldehyde in air can be analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography using aldehydes/DNPH standards. Firstly, a bubble absorption bottle containing DNPH standard solution is used to absorb formaldehyde in the air. Then, it is injected into liquid chromatography directly with a syringe, and the formaldehyde content in the air could be determined by a detector. Furthermore, the method has the characteristics of high sensitivity, good selectivity and simple operation.
