Plasticizers & Phthalates Standards
Plasticizer refers to the substance added to the polymer system to increase the plasticity of the system. The mechanism of action is to increase the mobility of polymer molecules by weakening the force between polymer molecules. According to the chemical structure of plasticizers, it can be divided into phthalates, chlorine-containing plasticizers, phenyl alkyl sulfonates, polyol esters, aliphatic tribasic acid esters, epoxy esters, phosphate esters, trimellitate esters and others. Among them, phthalate is a commonly used plasticizer in plastic products, widely used in in toys, food packaging bags, wallpaper, medical blood bags, medical hoses, detergents and many other products.
Studies have shown that the phthalate content exceeding the standard will cause great harm to human health. Therefore, for products containing plasticizers, standard reagents need to be formulated for content, use and recycling methods.
Application fields
Concrete: Generally, the higher the water content of concrete, the better its fluidity and workability. However, the strength of concrete after solidification is inversely proportional to the water content. Therefore, if the concrete is to have high strength, the amount of water in the concrete cannot be too much. The addition of plasticizers can reduce the amount of water without affecting the workability of concrete, while increasing the strength of concrete.
Energetic materials: Plasticizers are also commonly used in energetic materials and pyrotechnics. They can improve the physical properties of the propellant itself or the binder, and can also be used as auxiliary fuel to increase the propulsion provided by a unit of fuel.
Cosmetic: Perfume, nail polish and other cosmetics often use phthalates as fixatives to maintain the fragrance of perfume or make the nail polish film smoother.
Plaster wall: The use of plasticizers in gypsum walls can improve the processability of gypsum before it sets. In order to reduce the energy required for gypsum wall drying, less water is added in the production process, and the processability will become worse. The processability can be improved by adding plasticizer.
Rubber: Rubber will break the macromolecular bonds of the raw rubber during mixing, calendering, and compression molding, reducing the force between macromolecules and increasing plasticity. The addition of plasticizers can not only reduce the viscosity and improve the processing performance, but also improve the low-temperature flexibility, elongation, vulcanization elasticity and certain use properties.
Ink, paint, adhesive: Due to its own structure, ester plasticizers have good compatibility with most resins and organics. Therefore, in order to improve the processability, usability, and elasticity of coatings, inks, and adhesives, plasticizers are often used as solvents.
